1.
Jamais 02:13
je n’ai jamais habité ici / j’ai trouvé le mot pour ça / allez / encore une fois
2.
Queen Turner 03:21
where i lived it was clean / divide by three / don’t slow it down / just point it towards the rectory / rotting trees lined the streets / rotting leaves pined for feet / the ghost, the height, the hi-beams followed fast, mistake me / scattered beggars / gone but not away / strangled days lay in waste / by the banks the lakes are turned aside / they wait and hide for higher stakes / i was green but not gone / i was sick but not wrong / i felt a breeze confuse the trees before it moved along / scattered beggars / gone but not away / when i pushed back from the table / stable for so long / and i knew that I’d been hanging on common custom / scattered beggars / gone but not away
3.
Under Rays 03:17
in the morning it’s all white and gray / it’s all wrapped in cotton under rays through the window frame / the branch you left from trembling / always travel with no cash or case / when desire strikes you pull up the stakes / and in your wake / conversations sputtering / everything is equal / tell me something i don’t know / a bower better left uncrated / nothing left to show / out the doorway and it’s in my head / when the things i crave are the things i dread / and in their stead the roof the shed remaindering / cold and slightly empty / we don’t do much of it ourselves / i’m in the line and in the line i wait for it but i’m pulling down the shelves / when you’re humming along the street / and the headlights shine do you stop and think that it’s all so cheap when everything is everything?
4.
Wind Me Up 03:01
You come on straight from the road / come on straight from the road / it seems / you to the left and the sea / to the west and the sea / sounds out / needles and pins / wait to wind me up again / summer’s making me late / it sings / you say a prayer for yourself / put it back on the shelf / shifting / you to the left and the sea / to the west and the sea / sounds out / needles and pins / wait to wind me up again / summer’s sucking me in / and then / needles and pins / wait to wind me up again / winter’s making me wait / and then
5.
pack your bags before we head for the coast / one last toast to the pope / slowly sailing through the horizon line / perhaps some day you’ll find / when you’re trying to unwind / there’s no one to say goodnight to you in the lower hemisphere / shattered streets where we poured our concrete over six feet / something tells me this ain’t what we won / guess I could call you my baby / the right that they gave me: an acre and axe and a girl / spend my evenings singing songs about you, franco, the boat, and the crew, and the 80,000 who knew / there’s no one to say goodbye to you in the lower hemisphere / shattered streets where we poured our concrete over six feet / something tells me this ain’t what we won / and I thought that I was dreaming / just lying in your arms / faces fade and I forget you / I won’t let you run away from here / pack up, we’re heading for home tell the boys back in rome / there’s nothing left of the loan / spend my evenings singing songs about you / and everyone that we knew / hoping they were all were true / there’s no one to say goodbye to you in the lower hemisphere / shattered streets where we poured our concrete over six feet / something tells me this ain’t what we won / shattered streets where we poured our concrete over six feet / there’s no way to get back where you’re from
6.
you’re the only secondary salmon nation under the sun / on the edge of all creation / handsome homestead without a gun / sun sets I have no memory / of the places we’ve sung / stacking stones with our enemies / they call us to the cellar one by one / you’re the only secondary salmon nation under the sun / on the edge of fields of granite / seas of grasses / a band undone / and in the flash of the firelight wrapped in blankets we made / when the last lonely embers died they put us all to bed and stole away / you’re alight / you’re alight / our tongues were never tied / the church keys and the ditch weed kept it sanctified / you’re alight / and when you took off for that razor town, well, something in me died / cupping clouds of fireflies / built a home for fireflies / found a name for fireflies
7.
Rosehill 03:01
down on the street the leaves beneath our feet / the limbs they wind their way into the clouds / clear your eyes / get your stories right / we’ll try to find a way to make them shout / light weighs light / to the hand / to the eye / in two places / the bricks are hanging tight / lines and leaves / in the fall the money’s cheap / wind is sharper when the distances increase / one by one they sing in unison / calling out our names across the grounds / the sidewalk lines will be our guide tonight / colors faded clothing shuffling on / matty, don’t forget this / when it’s said and done / put away your pencils / let the sound escape your lungs
8.
Go Dancing 03:00
pretty picture soft in the middle / the careless details moved me little / and I could guess it takes an army to wade across this empty room / in the morning high in the shuffle / i called you over feeling rough / and you got the paper / it was written on your face that you were gone / can’t fight the way the way we scattered / i’ll be marking time forever / it was nothing, it was a rifle shot / ask me later, ask me not to betray the time for second chances / as we wait to rearrange / can’t fight the way the way we scattered / i’ll be marking lines forever / cant fight the way the way we scattered / when we thought that fortune was forgetful / you like to say it never mattered / i’ll be marking lines forever / wait you said you’d wait / for a moment or a year / now I’m haunting every hidden sidewalk / just to prove that we were here
9.
10.
i’m standing on the quay / but you ain’t running away / on any other day / i’d see it coming to stay / the waves beneath my feet don’t sleep / the ship it sinks it’s sprung a leak / we’re leaving / i’m waiting for my train / but it ain’t coming / not today / try but they abstain / for three days running / from all of this and all of that / the kids along the street compete / concrete beneath my feet so sweet / believe it / throw candy in the streets / and hope they eat / singing foreign anthems / they’ve been handed / to be abandoned / we head up to the lake / we’re on the make / we’ll lay the bait / they’ll take or leave it
11.
Cover Rights 03:04
on another day i could make you turn around / and your clothes along the floor / have never said any more / if we’re binding by it / cover rights could take us down / this time / i could build a wire monument / to getting what you want / but with the barter boys all burning clean / i lost the plot and blew it out / it’s what i wanted / and what i wanted / is what i wanted / when you walked away / all the walls were shaking down / and the people at the door / have never seen it before / if we’re binding by it / cover rights could take us down / this time / i could build a marble monument / to hating what you want / cause when the golden girls start stealing things / it makes you try to go without / its what i wanted / and what i wanted / is what i wanted / and we sang da da da

about

The third album of garage-pop outfit Eux Autres shows them expanding into deeper and darker terrain, while preserving the same trademark catchy pop backbone. The unrequited love song Doug Martsch would have penned for Francoise Hardy, had the time/space continuum conveniently collapsed.
